The lazy way to always have content

Ever sat down to write and ended up staring at a blank screen, waiting for inspiration to strike? It’s the worst.

And it’s completely avoidable.

You need two things

  1. A running idea bank

  2. A swipe file

Step 1: Build an Idea Bank

An idea bank is just a simple place where you dump every content idea that pops into your head.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • After a client call, note anything interesting you explained.

  • If you see someone making a mistake you used to make, write about it.

  • If a question keeps coming up, add it to the list.

It doesn’t matter if the idea is half-formed or messy.

The only rule is to never delete anything. Even if it feels like a bad idea, leave it. The more you do this, the easier ideas will come.

Step 2: Keep a swipe file

A swipe file is where you save posts, emails, or ads that catch your attention. If you read something and think, "This is good," save it.

Then, make a quick note about why you liked it.

It could be the way it’s structured, how simple it sounds, or how it pulls you in.

Doing this trains you to notice what works, which makes writing way easier.

Do this today

Before you do anything else, start these two things:

  1. Open a notes app or a doc and title it Idea Bank. Add at least three ideas.

  2. Create a Swipe File and save a few posts you like. Write down why they stood out.

Once you have these, you’ll never sit down to a blank page again.

Talk soon,

Tim
